My weekend readings led me to this little ditty from Kierkegaard: "The Bible is very easy to understand. But we Christians are a bunch of scheming swindlers. We pretend to be unable to understand it because we know very well that the minute we understand, we are obliged to act accordingly."
Ouch.
Thank you sir, may I have another!
(those were the first 2 thoughts that ran across my mind)
So I'm curious: what are yours?

Great Stuff Tom...simple, but not easy

I think Kierkegaard must be alive and able to read my mind. :/

The Bible IS easy to understand -- there are even versions in plain MODERN English! There is no need to even pretend it's too complicated, I think many of us don't READ it, because we know once we read it we'll have no excuse to ignore it. That's reason # 357 why we need Grace!

Gulp...so very true...and the reason I pray to be saved over and over again. Being a Christian can be difficult when it is easier to just go with the flow.

Does the ostrich head in the sand technique really work though for admission through the pearly gates?
What about those that don't "know" the "rules" -- aren't they obliged anyway too?
C.S. Lewis talks about how humans pretty much know what we "ought to do" -- the problem is that we don't do it. This gap is the struggle of Christian living.
My question is about those that don't know the "ought" part. Unless you agree with C.S. Lewis that the "ought to" applies universally deep inside our hearts and our creation.
